Vorkurs

Vorkurs was the preliminary course taught by László Moholy-Nagy, Johannes Itten and Josef Albers at the Bauhaus at different times. The course took place outside the curriculum and included elementary teaching of form, studies of matter and introductory workshops in Art and Design, configuring a permanent and experimental laboratory.

The UDESC Apotheke Painting Studio Study Group is a laboratory (pharmacy or apothecary) in the sense of pictorial labor, and just like Vorkurs, we develop research based on painting techniques. Instigated by artist teachers who understand Art as Experience (Dewey), we are located on the fringes of a curriculum where we teach and learn techniques such as Monotype, Anthotype, Encaustic, Cyanotype, Watercolor, Collage, among others that comprise the study of Painting and Drawing, the interaction of color or the study of form. Themes and techniques that, although located in an earlier time, bring the reading of a contemporary aspect to any work of Art constructed in our context. The technique is old and described in manuals, and the Artist reads them, constructing images today, where the aspect is contemporary to the concept. In this way, we are a locus of knowledge/doing/knowledge/feeling based on pictorial experimentation.
