ALBERS PROJECT
The Albers Project is mandatory for participants in the Apotheke Painting Studio Study Group. From March to June 2016, we worked on specific tasks that covered the content of the book by artist Professor J. Albers (The Interaction of Color, 2010). In weekly meetings, we carried out some exercises, and each participant developed a final project based on these studies, the latter aimed to develop each member's personal artistic research.
The Group studied the sequence of contents: values, intensity and luminosity, gradation, inverted backgrounds, transparency, addition and subtraction, axes which start from the book by J. Albers.
About the project themes: each participant was invited to think about and practice color studies in their creative process. The works were conditioned to a sequence that encompassed the final elaboration of a pictorial work (independent of the language – thinking of painting in an expanded field). To stimulate the beginning of the creative process, we went out to collect materials and plastic remains from the region's landscape, following the example of what the artist Professor J. Albers proposed as a work methodology, about learning to see, relating the perception of the eye to artistic creation.
