March 19, 2014:
Content: Study of two-dimensional ENCAUSTIC technique.
List of materials:
Support:
- option 1 - small eucatex panel (maximum 20X20cm) painted with acrylic plaster base (white or colored with pigment).
- option 2 (ideal) - small eucatex panel (maximum 20X20cm) with Arches/Watercolor paper of higher grammage glued over the eucatex.
**It is best to have at least 3 small packets to test possibilities.
Paints:
- oil tubes or sticks, pigments (powder), oily crayons (to melt)
Brushes:
- preferably use one with animal fur (synthetic ones cannot be used because of the heat)
Waxes:
- beeswax (ideal) + Damar resin = ideal mixture
- it is possible to use: carnauba wax, paraffin (non-professional)
Several:
- small tile (preferably white 10X10) to serve as a palette
- metal and/or aluminum dots (tuna type)
- wooden fasteners
- Xerox images (various photographs on your theme) in a size compatible with the support; magazines (collages) or - images that are of interest for testing; lines, pieces of wire/fences with different textures; materials that have textures or that can be glued;
- dermatographic pencil (small drawings on thin paper to transfer to the support);
- gouges (or objects with points for scraping); masking tape;
- leaves, traces (of any kind)
- hair dryer (optional for use every two or three), there is one in the painting room/we can use what is there;
- small iron (in good condition - optional)
HOT TABLE:
- I have 4 hot tables (flat grill type).
- It would be nice to have electrical extensions (if anyone can bring them, I don't have many)
- electric pan to heat the wax
