The Apotheke Painting Studio study group in 2022, within the scope of research, studied the book “How We Think: How Reflective Thinking Relates to the Educational Process, a Reexposition” by the American philosopher John Dewey. A seminal book for understanding the concept of Reflective Thinking that allows repercussions for the practice and teaching of visual arts.
In the context of criticism, we have advanced in our work clinic, adding to the evaluation process the reflective condition on the problem of painting. We have developed the open studio event to expand the clinical moment and discuss questions such as: how do we produce painting? How can we look at everyday life and verify poetic possibilities?
Thus, one of the themes proposed as a study problem for the group was the studio as a time and place for production and reflection. Where is my studio located? How do I organize my working documents? How do I access the generation of ideas that circulate in the studio? How does reflective thinking develop in artistic practice?
